I am a huge fan of the Duggars and watching them has opened up so many questions for me! Recently I have been questioning modesty. I was not brought up in a Christian home but my parents did teach my sister and I bit about modesty. It was very different than what I am reading about on other Christian blogs or seeing on the Duggars.
To Wear the Pants or not to Wear the Pants.... that is the big question!

Deuteronomy 22:5:
“A woman shall not wear a man’s garment, nor shall a man put on a woman’s cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God.”
“A woman shall not wear a man’s garment, nor shall a man put on a woman’s cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God.”
This is a controversial verse! I feel like this applies to cross-dressing, or does it involve actual styles of clothing?
I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. (NIV, 1 Timothy 2:9-10)
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. (NIV, 1 Peter 3:2-5)
I was reading "How has modest, feminine attire changed me?" on isthismodest? and there was a paragraph that really stood out to me:
"I love that when I go to a store older people look at me with admiration and say how lovely my daughters and I look in our long dresses. I love it that men no longer gawk at me but instead respectfully open the door for me. I love that people assume I am a Christian because of my attire."
Wow! I would love for people to look at me with admiration and respect! And to have people assume you are Christian just by your clothes, I think that's wonderful!
I have had men 'gawk' at me in the past (and at the time that is what I was going for)... however, now that I am married and building my relationship with God... it makes me feel uncomfortable. The only man I want to please is my husband! And more importantly I want to please God! If my clothes are distracting people or causing them to think lustfully then I am sinning!
There are definitely women's pants that are feminine... like if you saw a man wearing them you would know. Butt women's pants are made to flatter certain features that don't need to be emphasised. For example when I look in the mirror I automatically check myself out to see how I look, and what I am used to doing is looking to see if I am HOT or NOT...... what would happen if when I look in the mirror I am looking to see if I am HOLY or NOT.
What would my Father think of what I am wearing? Would He say, you are beautiful my child?
It is a lot to think about, and something that I have never thought about before. I have always thought that short skirts are not modest, obviously, but I have never thought about pants. Butt be honest with yourself! When you see a picture of a woman wearing pants, especially tight pants or jeans (which is the style) what do you think? Or when you are buying pants, what do you look for? I know I look for whatever makes me look the best!
I am seriously considering making the switch to skirts and dresses. I actually feel much more feminine when I wear a long skirt then when I wear pants. The problem is I don't own many skirts! Hmmmmmm I think it's time to visit the thrift stores soon! I will let you know what I do, I am going to pray about it some more and talk to my husband (do a little research on the male mind).
I am starting to realise that I live each day for myself... every decision I make is based on what will make me happy. Lord help me to wake up each morning and ask the question "What does the Lord want me to do today" and then give me the courage and conviction to answer.

Some great websites for modest clothing ideas:
You're full of interesting tid bits and really good things to think about! I know my husband wishes I wore skirts and dresses around the house. Modesty is very important to both of us but for him, he also loves how feminine I look in a dress. Celeste
